The 2025 Ford Expedition® brings structural strength, precision-tuned powertrains, and a range of advanced systems focused entirely on utility and mechanical performance. Constructed on a fully boxed, high-strength steel frame with a military-grade aluminum-alloy body, the vehicle is designed for durability and long-term use across a variety of terrains and conditions. Manufactured at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville with engines produced in Cleveland, Ohio, the model is engineered to meet diverse driving demands.

Powertrain Options Designed for Demanding Tasks

Two versions of the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® V6 engine are available in the 2025 Ford Expedition®. Both share a 60-degree configuration and feature aluminum blocks, forged steel crankshafts, and powder metal steel rods. Cast exhaust manifolds and twin independent variable camshaft timing contribute to controlled combustion and torque delivery. Each engine operates with a 10.5:1 compression ratio and a port fuel plus direct injection system, enhancing efficiency and consistency.

The standard engine produces 400 horsepower at 5,200 rpm with a torque output of 480 lb-ft at 3,300 rpm. A high-output version increases horsepower to 440 at 5,400 rpm and torque to 510 lb-ft at the same engine speed. Both variants use coil-on-plug ignition systems, a firing order of 1-4-2-5-3-6, and electronic throttle bodies sized at 68 mm. The redline is set at 6,500 rpm, and idle speed is calibrated to 625 rpm. Forced induction is achieved with twin turbochargers regulated by electronic controls, producing a maximum boost pressure of 20 psi.

The 2025 Ford Expedition® supports either regular or premium fuel. Oil capacity is 6.0 quarts with the filter included. Standard fuel tank capacity is 23.2 gallons, with an extended 27.8-gallon option for longer-range driving. Exhaust configurations differ depending on the engine, with the standard variant using a single exhaust and the high-output option using a dual system.

Transmission and Gear Ratios Tuned for Versatility

The 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission is paired with both engine options. This system uses gear ratios starting at 4.696:1 for first gear and moving through to 0.636:1 for tenth gear, with reverse set at 4.866:1. Final drive ratios are 3.31:1 for standard applications and 3.73:1 for performance or off-road use.

Drive Systems and Traction Management

Rear-wheel drive is standard, and a Control Trac® four-wheel-drive system is available. This system distributes power between front and rear axles depending on traction conditions. TREMOR® models include ControlTrac with eLocker and a 3.73 limited-slip differential, optimizing grip on uneven or low-friction surfaces.

Suspension Systems Designed for Load Stability and Passenger Comfort

The front suspension consists of an independent short- and long-arm design with coil-over shocks and a stabilizer bar. The rear setup uses an independent multi-link configuration with a stabilizer bar. Both ends include gas-charged shock absorbers, and a continuously controlled damping system is available to further regulate suspension behavior based on changing surface conditions.

Steering and Braking Systems Optimized for Control

An electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system is used to provide responsive input while reducing steering effort at low speeds. This system maintains stability during high-speed travel and improves maneuverability in parking and low-speed conditions.

Braking is managed by a power four-wheel disc system that includes antilock capabilities, brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution. These features work together to provide consistent stopping performance and minimize skidding or wheel lockup during emergency braking.

Wheel and Tire Combinations for Varying Conditions

Multiple wheel options are available to match specific trims and functional needs. These include 18-inch dark alloy-painted aluminum wheels on the Active® trim, 20-inch carbonized gray bright-machined aluminum on Active Touring, and up to 24-inch dark tarnished metallic machined-face aluminum wheels with the Driver Pack. Tire selections range from all-terrain P265/70R18 and P275/70R18 to all-season P275/60R20, P275/50R22, and P285/40R24, depending on trim level and intended use. This range supports both off-road capability and on-road comfort.
